This is an article that was originally published in the excellent but now defunct Sci Fi and Fantasy Models magazine nearly a decade ago now. (Yeesh! Where has the time gone?)
The article was written by Jamie Hood at Round 2 corporation who greenlighted the creation of what is probably one of the most accurate and comprehensive sci fi model kits ever made which I was extremely proud to be a part of. It was a team effort of myself, Chris Trice, Daniel Prud’homme and of course Jamie himself. The Space: 1999 Eagle is by far my favourite Sci Fi subject of all time and until this kit was made, there was never a really good representation of the fictional craft available to the general public. Since then, different versions of the Eagle kit were produced at 1/48th scale, 22” in length and a newly tooled 1/72nd model kit at 14” in length along with various accessories for them. All are near 100% accurate in proportion and detail. Jamie lays out the story of how this model came to be.
I thank God that Jamie and Round 2 chose to do this project and I will be forever grateful for making this lifelong dream of producing the first and only truly accurate mass produced model kit of the Space: 1999 Eagle spaceship a reality.
I really hope you enjoy reading this article. (Remember to click on the pictures for a larger view of each page that is easier to read).
Has it really been TEN YEARS already?!? Holy freakin' crap!!! Sorry, I don't have anything more relevant to contribute, except to say that I greatly appreciate the efforts of everyone involved and even forged some new friendships over this subject. The number of models of the Eagle in my collection actually outnumbers the number of models I own of the Starship Enterprise... and that's saying a lot! The Eagle was a versatile vehicle, and so each of its variants must be displayed... and in multiple scales! My pride and joy are the 22" and 14" models from MPC/Round 2 that I built a while back (I still can't believe it's been a decade now)! Thanks, guys!!
Still Drooling....
