Way back in 1999 I got the chance to work on a real motion picture. Unfortunately, due to extremely negative press, “Battlefield Earth” became a film that was more infamous than famous. (It’s nowhere near as bad a movie as the press and critics made it out to be. You simply have to think of it as a kind of comic book.) Shortly after I had come off work on the film, I wrote a kind of “diary” of the work and posted it on my website back in 1999:

I think I learned more about building models in the four months of working on that film than I had in my entire life previously.
Since then, I was interviewed in 2020 about the work we did on it and was made available on the Blu-ray release of Battlefield Earth which has other excellent interviews with more of the film’s creators. I highly recommend it.
You can see the entire interview by clicking here or the image below.
Note: for some reason the video “jitters” on playback. I don’t know why. I suspect it may depend on browser settings.
The fellow who did the interview, Daniel Griffith, did a wonderful job editing my terribly stammering commentary and using the pictures in all the right places. My only regret is not being able to limit my use of the phrase ”and so forth” which sounds almost as bad as the people who say the word “like” many times in a sentence.
My wife Julie is also seen in a shot or two.
Enjoy.
I Love that movie
