Very sad news.
One of my greatest heroes has died.
Brian Johnson is one of the main reasons, other than my Father, that I got into model making and my interest in VFX film making technology. I am saddened to learn that he has died mere hours ago as I write this.
Unfortunately I never had a chance to meet him in person but we did exchange messages in email and chat. He was even a subscriber to this Substack page.
I first learned about him when I was just a child after reading and devouring “The Making of Space: 1999” paperback book by Tim Heald which came out around 1975 or so. I talked about this in a previous post detailing how the MPC 22” Eagle model kit came to be.
I wish I had met him in person and had the opportunity to talk to him at length about his work, but the Atlantic Ocean and lack of opportunities divided us in that way. I also wish he had written an autobiography of his adventures in making some of the most amazing movies come alive. Alas, to my knowledge, he never did. I hope that all recorded memories of his various interviews and writings never disappear over time.
God bless you Brian. I will always remember you. Rest in peace. May your work and legacy live on forever.

Yes, an amzing artist! RIP
I am sorry for your loss.
